How it works

A whole beef from Renick Valley Meats is a simple way to stock up on high-quality, regionally raised beef. No guessing where your food came from or how it was processed.

Each whole beef is from a single animal, processed under West Virginia Department of Agriculture (WVDA) inspection and reserved ahead of time so it’s cut specifically for you.

We are a small, family-owned meat processor based in Renick, West Virginia, working with small, independent family farms, including our own, to move real food from rural Appalachian farms to families across the region.

This isn’t commodity retail beef.
At Renick Valley Meats, we invite you to ditch the grocery store and Do Meat Differently.

    • Independent processing jobs
    • Regional food infrastructure
    • Transparent, accountable food systems

    Frequently Asked Questions

Can I choose how my beef is cut?

Yes. We'll help walk you through our cutting instructions where you can choose:

    • Steak thickness
    • Roast sizes
    • Ground beef packaging
    • Bone-in or boneless options

We’re the processor — helping you understand your options is part of the service.

    How is pricing calculated?

Pricing is based on hanging (rail) weight, which reflects the actual size of the animal being processed. Final take-home weight varies depending on cut selections. See our video explaining different weights used in animal processing.

How much freezer space do I need?

A quarter beef typically fits in:

    • 16–20 cubic feet (about a standard chest freezer)

Where does the beef come from?

We work with small family farms in West Virginia and western Virginia, including our own. Production practices vary, and we’re always happy to discuss sourcing to find the right fit for your family.

Is this good for first-time bulk buyers?

It can be! Depending on your family size and how often your family eats beef a whole beef could be the right fit. If you're unsure, a quarter beef is the most approachable way to start buying beef in bulk, and most of our long-term customers began with one. Still have questions? DM us on Facebook or Instagram or send us an email at RenickValley@gmail.com.

    What does the deposit cover?

Your deposit reserves your portion of an animal and processing slot. The remaining balance is due after processing, once the final hanging weight is known.

    “Is This Really Local?”

Short answer: Yes — in a way that is actually sustainable.

There are nearly 15 times more people than beef cattle in Virginia. On the other hand, counties like Greenbrier and Pocahontas County, West Virginia, have more cows than people.

    The countryside produces food.
    Cities depend on it.

When we say local, we mean:

    • Raised within our region
    • Small scale processing by skilled butchers
    • Sold directly to families within our region

Not imported carcasses stamped with the USDA seal after further processing. Not anonymous. Not commodity beef. Not controlled by big food corporations.

Regional food systems only work when food can move from where it’s raised to where people live. That’s exactly what we’re doing.

    Is this USDA inspected?

No. This is WVDA-inspected meat, sold under West Virginia processing regulations. State inspection regulations must meet or exceed those of the USDA.

    Final Note

Bulk meat purchasing works best when there’s trust, transparency, and real infrastructure behind it.
